The 2011 Michigan Novice opened the competition season after a long winter of training, dieting, developing presentation and simply appearing before a large audience to be critiqued and compared to other competitors. It was not as great of a turnout, perhaps, as past years, but the enthusiasm and motivation to do this thing, was certainly as great.

If you were not a part of this event, then you should know some things. Natalie Abrheim satisfied the audience and judges to become the 2011 Novice Bikini Champion. Natalie was the short class winner and competed with the tall class winner, Amber Anderson, for her title. Three contestants, Nicole Zajac short class, Rauchelle Shultz medium class, and Amber Mahaffy tall class competed to be this year's Figure Champion. Nicole Zajac stepped out ahead to be the champion of the Figure Division. Elizabeth Fuhrwerk, 40 and over, and Jana Wunderlich, 35 to 39, presented themselves to become the champions of their Figure Divisions.

Jason Douglas was the Teenage Champion, while Brent Lane was the champion for the Master's ( 40 - 49 ) Bodybuilding Division. Ana Magee was the 35 and over Women Bodybuilding and Amber Clemons the Open Women Bodybuilding Champions. The overall 2011 Novice Michigan Open Bodybuilding Champion was Light-heavyweight Class Kevin Frasard.

John Simmons Powerhouse Classic and Jennifer D. Peckham, Fitness, Figure and Bikini Championships

The NPC John Simmons Powerhouse Classic and Jennifer D. Peckham, Fitness, Figure and Bikini Championships on Saturday, March 26, 2011 will be the first national qualifier of the Michigan season. The bodybuilding, physique, fitness, figure and bikini championships will happen at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave, in Dearborn, Michigan.

The competitors for Men's Physique can qualify to be among the first to appear on a national stage! The physique division is devided into two height classes. This is a new NPC division beginning this year.

The event is scheduled to begin at 12 noon with pre-judging of the competitors within their divisions and classes. The final placement of the competitor's rank will begin an hour earlier than usual at 6 P.M. A large enthusiastic audience is expected to respond to the individual presentations of the competitors and their trophy awards. The competitors will receive trophies through the first five places in each class of competition. Overall fitness, figure and bikini division winners will also receive tiaras and spa treatments. The overall Physique winner will receive a gift card from Footlocker, while all overall winners will receive gift cards for dinner and complimentary chiropractic consultation and adjustments.

In 2010, this same contest saw light-heavyweight class, Earskin Presley, emerge as the Bodybuilding Division champion. Jamie Taylor became the Figure Division champion, while Bianca Binno was the champion of the Bikini Division. This contest coming at the beginning of the season provides a convenient venue to move quickly into national competition. Complete results and pictures from this event can be found at Bodybuilding Weekly.

General admission will be 15 dollars for the pre-judging and 25 dollars for the evening final presentations.  Reserved VIP seating is available in the evening for 30 dollars.

Documentary about Young Bodybuilders and the 2011 NPC Novice

A film producer would like your help with a documentary that will incorporate the 2011 NPC Novice Michigan on March 19 at the Redford Theatre in Detroit. Since I'm not familiar with the details, I've included a letter from Chris Baronavski, the producer.

I'm working on an upcoming documentary about several young bodybuilders in the US and abroad, and I was interested in finding someone who will be competing at the NPC Novice Michigan on March 19. Ideally, I would like to document training in the week/few days before the competition, as well as the competition.

I'm American, but I'm currently based in Holland at the moment.

I thought it might also be helpful to mention that the film is being shot with a Canon 5d mark II/ 7d with a variety of lenses and is professional quality. If anyone is willing to participate, we would also be happy to take headshots, modeling pics, etc. (as many as they want, as time allows).

If you are beginning as a novice, you probably have not had an opportunity to do a lot of modeling photo shoots. This would be an opportunity to do a professional shoot, as well as, add an increased layer of excitement to your competition at the 2011 NPC Novice.
